“Mriya” (“Dream” in Ukrainian) now decorates the wall of the tennis court in the city park.
The artist of the mural, Dmytro Vergeles, announced this on his Instagram page. “This picture is my dream. For a long time I wanted to draw something related to aviation in Boryspil. Later, I came up with an idea to draw “Mriya”, because I am interested in technologies. It’s more than an airplane, it’s a symbol,” the artist said.
The flight of “Mria” over Khreshchatyk during the parade dedicated to the 30-th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence made a huge impression on Dmytro. And the destruction of the airplane as a result of the full-scale invasion of russia became the impetus for starting this project.
On February 27, AN-225 “Mriya” was destroyed by russian troops in Hostomel airport near Kyiv.”. According to preliminary information, its restoration will cost the country more than 3 billion dollars and will take a long time. On March 24, the State Enterprise “Antonov” launched fundraising campaign to resurrect the An-225 “Mriya”.
