Approximately 25,000 Ukrainian civilians are considered missing under special circumstances, meaning they are civilian hostages held in Russian captivity.
These figures were provided by the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, during a press conference on September 7, as reported by “Interfax-Ukraine.”
“With regard to civilian hostages, according to my information, approximately 25,000 Ukrainian citizens can be considered as those who have disappeared under special circumstances. The situation has not changed, and it is extremely dire. Russians practically detain civilians on temporarily occupied territories almost every day, thus adding to this list,” said Lubinets.
It is worth noting that the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights has also reached out to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Virginia Gamba, requesting lists of deported Ukrainian children from the Russian side.
Lubinets emphasizes that under the guise of “good deeds,” evacuations, or vacations, Russia is taking Ukrainian children to its territory or to the temporarily occupied Crimea.
