Belarus allows the use of its troops in the war against Ukraine

This is stated in Belarus’s military doctrine.

“Belarus considers it possible to provide military assistance to friendly states based on bilateral and multilateral international agreements of the Republic of Belarus, including the deployment of military contingents to participate in relevant activities to maintain international peace and security”, the document says.

The doctrine mentions that Belarus views any actions involving the use of military force against members of the Union State as encroachments in general and “will take appropriate measures in response using all forces and means at its disposal”.

Additionally, the document states that Belarus will be prepared to provide any assistance, including military, to a member country of the CSTO in the event of aggression against it. The military doctrine also mentions Ukraine. In particular, Belarus believes that the “collective West” provoked a “military conflict” in Ukraine and created a hotspot near Belarus’s borders in the near future.

“Further support and hindrance to peaceful settlement create conditions for its escalation and gradual expansion of the number of participants at the expense of Poland and other NATO countries. These trends increase the likelihood of involving the Republic of Belarus in an international armed conflict”, the doctrine declares.

Belarus’s role in Russia’s war against Ukraine

From the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Belarus has played the role of an aggressor’s ally. Russian troops launched attacks on Ukraine from Belarusian territory, seizing parts of the Kyiv, Chernihiv, and Sumy regions. These territories were later recaptured by Ukrainian forces.

Belarus also provided Russia with a platform to launch missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.
