British Foreign Secretary meeting Ukraine’s leadership in Kyiv, announces new assistance package

Cleverly also tweeted a photo with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.

“Words are not enough. Words won’t keep the lights on this winter. Words won’t defend against Russian missiles. The UK isn’t just talking about Ukraine, we’re providing concrete support for the defence of Ukraine. Thank you Dmytro Kuleba for welcoming me to Kyiv,” the British Foreign Secretary posted on Twitter.

As BBC reports, Mr Cleverly said the UK stands “shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine” and that Russia’s attack “will fail”.

The UK’s official also announced an additional package of assistance to Ukraine. It will include £3m in funding to help with the rebuilding of infrastructure, such as schools and shelters, that has been destroyed since the start of the war. The funds will also be used to support survivors of sexual assault.

Moreover, Britain will send ambulances, a further 11 emergency vehicles, including six armoured vehicles, to Ukraine.

Mr Cleverly said that, as winter sets in, Russia was aiming to “break Ukrainian resolve through its brutal attacks on civilians, hospitals and energy infrastructure”.

The British Foreign Secretary arrived following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s visit to Kyiv on Saturday.

Earlier, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said that the UK would hand over three Sea King helicopters and 10,000 artillery rounds to Ukraine.
