“It seems to me completely incongruous that an aggressor state, in this case – Russian Federation, can be a member of the UN Security Council and therefore have a veto right,” MP said.
“But that said I am not clear what the process is legally in international law. Because we are doing a by international law even when Russians don’t, when the process is legally to exclude them from the Security Council given that they are members. I think the position is incongruous and untenable but how to change it is a different matter altogether,” the lawmaker stressed.
As reported earlier, on September 24, a bipartisan group of U.S. congressmen appealed to President Joe Biden to initiate the process to ban Russia from the UN Security Council.
Also, on September 23, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said his country stood for abolishing the veto in the UNSC system.
