Details: The reach of the curriculum of so-called “children’s patriotic education” in Crimean schools has been expanded. The self-proclaimed local government has announced that the school’s facades will be decorated with memorial plaques bearing the names of the soldiers who took part in the “special operation” [the term Russia uses to describe its war in Ukraine – ed.]; they claim that schoolchildren “must know those names”.
A new “Razgovory o vazhnom” (Russian for “Conversation about important topics”) curriculum has been introduced; during these classes, pupils will be taught “patriotism” and “civic education” as conceived by the Russian occupiers. Aksyonov also announced that the school program will from now on include military-patriotic education and initial military training, though he did not elaborate on the details.
