Deputy Head of the Kherson Regional State Administration, Volodymyr Klyutsevskyi, revealed this information during an interview on KYIV24.
“I constantly travel across the communities of Kherson region and with pain in my heart observe the ruined cultural institutions, educational institutions, and libraries. Literally yesterday, I visited two houses of culture and entered those libraries where books were burned. They are no longer suitable for use”, he said.
Klyutsevskyi emphasized that only a few libraries remain intact at present, prompting them to initiate a book collection campaign to preserve what remains.
“Overall, only a few libraries remain intact in the occupied territory. Practically, more than 200 thousand books in these libraries have already been destroyed, burned, or rendered unusable. On the occasion of the anniversary of the great kobzar’s birthday and in accordance with the decision of the first Southern Festival of the Native Language, which took place in Kherson, it was agreed to initiate a book collection campaign called ‘Free People Read in Ukrainian!'”, Klyutsevskyi announced.
