As noted, no objection requests or annexes have been made and, therefore, the position of the Council of the EU is considered approved and the legislation adopted. The European Parliament President is expected to sign the legislation this afternoon.
As reported, yesterday, December 13, the European Parliament by a simple majority of votes put consideration of the proposal of the Council of EU to provide €18 billion macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023 under the urgent procedure on the agenda. Since such a proposal was submitted for second reading, the proposed legal act is considered adopted if MEPs file no objections or annexes to it.
The day before, the Council of the EU unanimously approved €18 billion package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023. Hungary, which for some time blocked the adoption of such a decision, withdrew its objections after the relevant negotiation process within the Council.
The aid package is provided to Ukraine in the form of a loan on favorable terms. The repayment period is 10 years with the possibility of extension, while the loan guarantees will be paid from the budgetary reserves of the European Union.
