This was reported by Reuters citing the German Ministry of Defense.
Last month, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced assistance to Ukraine totaling 478 million euros, not including support for the Czech initiative regarding ammunition. At that time, he also stated that Germany’s contribution would cover the cost of 180 thousand shells.
“Thus, the total cost of both support measures exceeds one billion euros”, said a representative of the German Ministry of Defense.
More countries are joining the Czech initiative to supply hundreds of thousands of ammunition to Ukraine from outside Europe. Germany’s share of this initiative will be 40%, according to the German ministry.
Earlier, it was reported by the media that the participants in the initiative, which includes 15 countries, signed an agreement under which Kyiv will receive a million units of ammunition, more than previously planned. According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, the first batch may arrive not in June, as previously publicly announced by the Czech government, but already in April.
