This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Kyiv City State Administration Valentyn Mondryivskyi at a briefing.
“We don’t recommend holding holiday parades, again, for safety reasons. We cannot prohibit to do this; it is a decision of parents or teachers” the official said.
At the same time, according to Mondryivskyi, there are no objections to meeting parents and the first teacher and getting to know each other.
“All of 421 public schools have passed the safety inspection, and all of them are ready for the new academic year. 77% of these schools are schools that have shelters and have received confirmation from all services, the State Emergency Service, the military that their shelters are ready to receive and ensure the children safety,” Mondryivskyi said.
He added that those facilities that do not have shelters are contracting with nearby buildings that can serve as shelters or will operate online.
“An interesting fact is that out of 178,000 children in Kyiv now, 138,000 are ready and want to learn offline,” the deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration said.
In his opinion, “this indicates that the security level in the city is at a fairly high level, since so many children and parents want to study offline.”
At the same time, the director of the Department of Education and Science of the Kyiv City State Administration, Olena Fidanyan, emphasized that 18 schools will work exclusively online in Kyiv.
She explained that these are the schools that do not have shelters and have not found another building nearby at a suitable distance that can be used as a shelter.
“There are some schools in which work in shelters is still processing. And these schools can also temporarily reduce the number of children who come to offline education, or in general stay online for another week or two in order to complete the repair work,” Fidanyan said.
