NATO urges civilians to be prepared for war with Russia

This was reported by SkyNews, citing the head of the NATO Military Committee, Rob Bauer.

“We need to realize that living in peace is not a fact. Therefore, we (NATO forces) are preparing for a conflict with Russia. But discussions are much broader. This is also an industrial base, as well as people who need to understand that they play a certain role”, he said.

Rob Bauer emphasized that despite the readiness of the Armed Forces for the start of the war, citizens of Western countries should also be prepared for a conflict that will require significant changes in their lives. The Chairman of the Military Committee also added that Sweden did the right thing by calling on its population to prepare for war in early January.

This is where the awareness begins that not everything can be planned, and not everything will go smoothly for the next 20 years.

NATO Preparation

German experts believe that armed confrontation between Russia and NATO is probable. The German Defense Minister has called for preparation. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius does not consider an attack by the Russian Federation likely. However, Pistorius is inclined to trust the statements of experts that an attack will occur in five to eight years.

NATO plans to conduct large-scale exercises in February to deter aggression from Russia. About 90,000 military personnel, aircraft, and ships of the Alliance and Sweden will participate in them. The scenario of the exercises is an attack by the Russian Federation on the territory of the Alliance, leading to the activation of Article 5 of the NATO Treaty. It regulates obligations to provide assistance in the bloc and stipulates that an armed attack on one or more allies is considered an attack on all. The exercises will be called Steadfast Defender 2024 and will last until May.

The preparation for large-scale NATO military exercises in Europe was known as early as January 15. At that time, the UK announced that it was sending 20,000 military personnel, military ships, and fighter jets to participate in the planned exercises in the first half of 2024.
