North Korea may transfer guided projectiles for MLRS to Russia

This information was reported by the Yonhap news agency.

Analysts revealed that the new ammunition has a caliber of 240 millimeters. Military tests of these projectiles were conducted on Sunday, February 11.

North Korea believes that this technical upgrade will enhance the role of MLRS on the battlefield and help reassess the strategic value of such caliber installations. Currently, the system has been deployed near the border with South Korea and aimed at its capital, Seoul.

The article suggests that the latest weapons testing is occurring against the backdrop of deepening military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, making it likely that the new projectiles will be exported to Russia.

“This 240-millimeter projectile for MLRS likely has dual purposes. From a practical perspective, there is a possibility that it is being considered for export to Russia, and politically, it could be intended to pressure South Korea”, said Hong Min, a senior researcher at the Korea National Unification Institute.

It was also previously reported that North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un called for strengthening the country’s naval forces to “enhance war preparedness” and protect maritime sovereignty. During a visit to the Nampho Naval Shipyard, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stated that strengthening the Navy is the “most important issue,” requiring the modernization of North Korea’s shipbuilding industry.
