This is stated in the statement of the European Commission website.
The countries reiterate their support for Ukraine’s Application instituting proceedings against the Russian Federation before the International Court of Justice under the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Ukraine wants to obtain a ruling that Russia does not have the lawful basis to take military actions in Ukraine based on unsubstantiated allegations of genocide.
The countries have emphasized the importance of proceedings against Russia and called on Moscow to immediately end the military offensive in Ukraine, as required by the court ruling of March 16, 2022.
“If Russia does not comply with the court decision of March 16, it will be another violation of international law,” states the joint statement of the countries.
The document states that Russia must be held accountable for its actions.
The statement ends with a call on the international community to consider all options to support Ukraine in its proceedings before the International Court of Justice.
