Polish carriers may again block the border with Ukraine

This information was reported by Valentina Chernysh, the spokesperson for the Volyn Customs, on the “Suspilne. Sprotiv” program.

According to her, the organizer of the previous strike has submitted a new application for a repeat protest action, scheduled to begin on December 18.

“We will see how the local authorities react to this request. In addition, the strikers retain the right to challenge the previous decision to cancel the protest in court. We can assess these risks in various ways, but we continue working”, she noted.

The spokesperson also mentioned that as of December 13, the Yagodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint, which was unblocked, is not operating at full capacity. Due to the prolonged blockade, many drivers have chosen to travel to the freed crossing point. Currently, approximately 700 trucks are expected from the Polish side at the border crossing. Over the past day, customs officers in Volyn processed 450 trucks entering Ukraine and 300 vehicles leaving the country.

Recall that on November 6, 2023, Polish carriers initiated a strike at the border crossings with Ukraine, putting forward a series of demands, including the repeal of the so-called “transport visa.” These actions led to massive queues at the border, negatively affecting the delivery of aid to Ukraine. On December 11, it became known that the blockade of the Yagodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint, the largest freight crossing point between Ukraine and Poland, has ended.
