He made these remarks in a comment to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
“Nothing has changed throughout the entire year of their occupation. As for the possibility of a threat or not, there are no explicit threats, but considering how the station is operated, with warehouses of equipment and ammunition located on the plant’s premises, it is clear that the situation can become critical and go out of control at any time”, Samoydiuk said.
He advised locals to leave Energodar and the surrounding area if possible.
“For those for whom it is not possible today, if there is transportation, keep it fully fueled with all the necessary emergency kits, assembled documents, valuable belongings, and survival supplies for the immediate period. Because if the situation goes out of control, we can expect that they (the occupiers) will be obligated and forced to provide ‘corridors’ for the evacuation of the population from such territory”, the official added.
In turn, Yuri Malashko, the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, stated that the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, considering the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station, is stable.
“As of now, the situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP is stable. Some of our reactors are undergoing repairs, some are in cold shutdown, and one reactor is in hot shutdown. The cooling pond’s water level is normal at 16.6 meters. In other words, the situation is stable, and the radiation level near the plant and the 20-kilometer zone is within normal limits”, he noted.
The Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration also reiterated that there is no threat to the water supply of Zaporizhzhia.
As explained by the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company “Energoatom,” water from the Kakhovka Reservoir is necessary for the plant to receive replenishment for the turbine condensers and the Zaporizhzhia NPP’s safety systems.
