Rosatom must be sanctioned as nuclear arms manufacturer – Finnish MP

Anders Adlercreutz, a Finnish lawmaker, who is a member of Parliament’s Defense Committee, stated this in a commentary to Guildhall.

“Finland terminated its cooperation with Rosatom precisely because of its involvement in the Russian nuclear arms industry. In Ukraine Rosatom has been involved in the illegal confiscation of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. It is thus directly involved in a war that is a blatant breach of international law,” the politician said.

“Taking that into account, cooperation with Rosatom should not be possible as a result of this and I definitively support sanctioning it. It would be reasonable for EU to follow Finland’s example and to impose sanctions based on Rosatom’s involvement in Russia’s nuclear arms production,” Anders Adlercreuz summed up.

It should be recalled that in early May, Finland’s ennovoima terminated the contract with the RAOS Project, a member of Rosatom, for the construction of the Hanhikivi-1 nuclear power plant.

Earlier this month, Member of the European Parliament from Hungary, leader of Jobbik party Márton Gyöngyösi said cooperation with Rosatom poses a serious threat to Hungary’s security and is unacceptable from a moral standpoint. There should be EU sanctions against Rosatom, while cooperation between Hungary and Rosatom in the framework of the construction of the power unit for the Paks nuclear power plant should be stopped, he said.

The Ukrainian Center for Defense Reforms’s research proved that, in addition to participating in civilian nuclear energy projects, Rosatom is an important component of the Russian military-industrial complex, being engaged in the production and operation of nuclear weapons.
