Agerpress reports, citing the words of Moldova’s president, Maia Sandu, “We know that in the spring of this year, Russia will resume its actions, trying to destabilize the situation”.
Sandu recalled that throughout this period, Russia has attempted to destabilize order and government in Chisinau, trying to use the regime in the Transnistrian region each time.
“We are aware of these risks and take all measures to prevent these destabilizations. And we inform citizens about these risks, as we did last year when Russia intended to overthrow the government”, added the President of Moldova, emphasizing that the government still has work to do, and there are still vulnerabilities.
Sandu emphasized that Moldova relies on the support of Romania and the international community to prevent a tragic outcome.
Recall that earlier, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War reported that the Kremlin could use the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic to create instability in Moldova and undermine Ukrainian grain exports along the western coast of the Black Sea.
In the report, analysts noted that on January 10, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the Moldovan ambassador to express protest against the “unfriendly actions” of Moldova, including “politically motivated persecution of Russian and Russian-speaking media” and “cases of discrimination against Russian citizens entering Moldova”. In addition, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs threateningly stated that if such actions continue, “the Russian side reserves the right to take additional measures in response”. The Russian department also claimed that information had appeared in the media that Moldova plans to assist NATO in training Ukrainian troops on Moldovan territory, which, according to the Russian Federation, would be equivalent to Moldova’s “direct participation” in hostilities on the side of Ukraine.
