Russian assets abroad can fully cover Ukraine’s reconstruction needs

This was announced by Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Yurchyshyn in an interview on the «Kyiv» television channel.

“The assets of Russians located abroad in Western jurisdictions can fully cover Ukraine’s reconstruction needs. It all depends on how we and our international partners deal with confiscation. The example of Malofeev is instructive. Because if previously the West was only willing to confiscate sovereign assets, such as Sberbank or Gazprom, now the West has gone further and confiscates the assets of oligarchs who support the regime, ruscism, but are not directly linked to the state. Although we understand that doing business in Russia and not being connected to the Kremlin vertical is impossible. This is a huge achievement. Currently, sovereign assets of the Russian Federation and the funds of any Russian oligarchs are under suspicion. The main thing is to do it quickly and have all the necessary mechanisms for confiscation in the world and in Ukraine”, explained Yurchyshyn.

In early May, the US for the first time allowed confiscated Russian assets to be transferred to Ukraine. US Attorney General Merrick Garland authorized the first transfer of confiscated Russian assets to Ukraine, which will go towards reconstruction efforts.

As previously reported, during a meeting with US Attorney General Merrick Garland, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin stated that Ukrainian prosecutors intend to seize the foreign assets of the PMC “Wagner”. Kostin emphasized the need to deprive the Wagner Group of resources for conducting military operations in Ukraine and undermining peace and security in the world.
