The mayor, Igor Terekhov, stated this in an interview with LIGA.net.
“I don’t know what the enemy’s plan is. Almost all critical energy infrastructure has already been destroyed, and private infrastructure has also been damaged. There was a time when out of practically a two-million city only 300,000 remained”, he said.
Terekhov emphasized that Russia wants to intimidate the city’s residents, but this is impossible.
“For two years of the great war, there have been various threats, starting with saboteurs in Kharkiv itself, but there has never been such strong pressure on the energy infrastructure”, he said.
“No one is giving up. We have round-the-clock resilience points. After the last blackout caused by shelling, 28,000 Kharkiv residents came there. People are being fed for free in schools. In a year, 10 million meals have been provided. We have survived even more difficult times, and we will survive this”, the mayor stressed.
Responding to a question about the possibility of a Russian advance on Kharkiv, Terekhov said, “It doesn’t matter what the enemy is preparing. What matters is how we will resist. And to do this, many factors are needed, primarily military”.
“As for the exhaustion of Kharkiv, the Russians will not succeed. There is no panic in the city. Russia’s intimidation tactics do not work – the people are united”, he added.
It is worth noting that today, in the night of April 1st, Russian forces struck the Kharkiv region. The fire department was damaged. According to rescuers, the strike hit a settlement in the region bordering the Russian Federation.
