Russians may target nuclear power plants in Ukraine

President Zelensky made this statement during an online address at a meeting of the European Council, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

“Russia has already destroyed almost all of our thermal energy infrastructure. Dams and hydroelectric equipment, as well as gas infrastructure, are under terrorist attacks. Russia continues its radiation blackmail and, in particular, is still playing recklessly with the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. We do not rule out that the infrastructure of our other nuclear power plants and distribution networks are also under threat from Russian terror”, Zelensky said.

The President once again emphasized the necessity of transferring air defense systems to Ukraine.

“Only AD can stop this – specific systems like ‘Patriot’, ‘Iris-T’, ‘Samp-T’, Nasams. The systems you have. Ukraine needs them right now – they are needed to prevent Putin from using terrorist methods”, he stressed.

Zelensky added that the “Russian army feels its strength almost everywhere”. According to him, “Putin now hopes to achieve success in his counteroffensive, and the only basis for this hope is the lack of weapons among our soldiers”.

Recall that yesterday, Volodymyr Zelensky responded to the Russian attack on Chernihiv and called on Western partners to provide AD systems to protect the civilian population. In particular, he emphasized that this tragedy would not have occurred if the West had not delayed in providing assistance. According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, as of this morning, there are already 18 confirmed fatalities, with 79 people injured, including 4 children.
