This was reported by MP Yegor Cherniev.
This is an important step, as it involves a coalition document supported by all ruling parties in Germany. The decision to provide Ukraine with these systems still rests with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. However, the intensity of the issue is gradually increasing, raising hopes that the expected result will be achieved.
In the Bundestag, after debates on February 22nd, the first proposal regarding the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine was rejected.
“This is political double-talk. The opposition pushed their project, there was a mention of Taurus. The coalition compromise agreed on the text about long-range weapons. There are no other missiles for such purposes in Germany”, wrote the MP.
The day before, Scholz’s position on Taurus was criticized by his fellow party member from the Social Democratic Party, Mari-Agnès Strack-Zimmermann. According to her, “not everyone in the SPD has yet understood that Ukraine is fighting for our peace, our freedom, and our future in Europe”.
The spokesperson for the German government, commenting on this statement, said that the Chancellor was unhappy with Strack-Zimmermann’s decision to vote for the opposition resolution, which mentions Taurus for Ukraine.
