The IAEA has discovered anti-personnel mines on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, reported that during an inspection on July 23rd, the IAEA team observed several mines in the buffer zone between the inner and outer perimeters of the plant.

These mines are located in an area that is inaccessible to the plant personnel.

“As I reported earlier, the IAEA was aware of the previous placement of mines outside the plant’s perimeter, as well as in certain areas inside. Our team reported this to the ZNPP management, and they were told that it was a military decision, and the mines were placed in a zone controlled by the military”, Grossi stated.

He added that the presence of such explosive devices on the ZNPP premises contradicts the safety standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency and nuclear safety protocols. Additionally, it creates additional psychological pressure on the plant’s personnel.

It should be noted that on July 24th, the Russians put Block No. 4 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in “hot shutdown” mode, which is a gross violation of operational requirements.
