SCRANTON, PA - APRIL 12: 155mm artillery shells that are ready to be shipped are stored at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant on April 12, 2023 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The U.S. Army is rapidly moving to scale up the production of the ammunition built at the plant and being supplied to Ukraine. The company has been run by General Dynamics since 2006. They are contracted to produce 11,000 shells per month but in the last few months they have exceeded that number. (Photo by Hannah Beier/Getty Images)
Dmytro Kuleba reported this in an interview with Redaktions Netzwerk Deutschland (RND).
“All contracts for the export of ammunition manufactured in Europe to third countries should be suspended, and all such ammunition should be directed to Ukraine. Every bullet produced in Europe should serve to protect Europe”, he emphasized.
The Foreign Minister said that he emphasizes the shortage of ammunition in conversations with partners.
“I complain about the lack of ammunition at every meeting with our partners. They all know about it and admit mistakes. They decided too late to increase their own production, sign long-term contracts, and put new production lines into operation. Unfortunately, we are now paying for these mistakes”, Kuleba explained.
He also announced efforts to make ammunition currently being purchased by European states from third countries available to Ukraine.
Recall that on January 31, representatives of the European Union announced that they would not be able to provide the promised one million shells to Ukraine by March 1, 2024. By that time, EU countries will only accumulate 600,000 ammunition units. At the same time, Ukraine has already informed allies that it faces a “critical” shortage of artillery shells, as Russia uses three times more ammunition on the front lines every day.
