BRUSSELS, BELGIUM - MARCH 23: Viktor Orban Prime Minister of Hungary attends the European Union Council Meeting on March 23, 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. On the agenda of the Council's two-day meeting are human rights violations in Iran, the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, and food security in Europe. As reported by Magyar Nemzet, Orban considers the return of Crimea to Ukraine unrealistic and urges not to provide military support to Ukraine in order to end the war.
“We must negotiate with the Russians about a new security architecture that will ensure security and sovereignty for Ukraine, but not NATO membership”, he stated.
A representative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded that there was “growing concern” in the department because Orban has not been advocating for the cessation of support to Ukraine for a long time.
“We don’t know how things are in Hungary, but Ukraine does not trade its territories or its sovereignty. And the world will not trade either. And the Russian leadership, no matter how many public advocates it enlists, will inevitably be held responsible for all the harm inflicted on Ukrainians”, the statement reads.
