This was reported by the press service of the national regulator.
The National Bank of Ukraine has initiated the “Brave hryvnia” charity event, during which coins in denominations of 10, 50 kopiykas and 1, 2, 5 and 10 hryvnyas will be collected throughout the country for the next three months for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“There are currently more than 14 billion coins worth more than UAH 5 billion in circulation. A significant number of changeable coins, in particular coins with a denomination of 10 kopiykas. (28.5% of the total number of coins in circulation) and 50 kopiykas (9.3% of the total amount), is often not used by citizens for cash payments and lies in piggy banks or pockets. At the same time, these funds can help Ukrainian defenders defend the country from the Russian aggressor,” the report says.
The regulator noted that the “Brave hryvnia” campaign is “a good opportunity to contribute to the victory, even if it is only 10 kopiykas”.
“Coin collection points will operate from August 1 to October 31, 2022 in branches of authorized banks – Oschadbank and PUMB.” Deposit the coins in the banks, and we will donate them to the front” NBU Deputy Chairman Oleksiy Shaban said.
From August 1 to October 31, 2022, every citizen will be able to join the campaign, collect coins and bring them to the JSC “Oschadbank” and JSC “PUMB” branches – not only in Kyiv, but in almost all regions of the country where these banks operate, considering for safe working conditions.
