The Russians are shutting down the 4th reactor at the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

This was announced by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is now once again using reactor unit 4 to generate steam for various safety functions at the facility after the repair of a water leak detected in mid-August, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said

In turn, the 6th energy block of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which temporarily generated steam during repair works, has been switched to “cold standby”.

Meanwhile, at “Energoatom”, it has been stated that the failure of the Russian occupiers to comply with the licensing requirements of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate regarding the operation of units at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant increases the likelihood of a radiation accident.

“The presence of Russian military personnel, weapons, and heavy equipment on the premises of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, as well as non-compliance with the licensing requirements of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, inevitably leads to the degradation of the equipment and systems of the station critical to safety. This can lead not only to an increase in equipment failures but also to the occurrence of a radiation accident”, emphasized Petro Kotin, President of Energoatom.

It is worth noting that on September 29th, the General Conference of the IAEA adopted a resolution calling for the immediate return of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant under the full control of Ukraine.
