This was reported by press service of the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense.
“A special forces group of less than 10 people was involved. Compared to the US rescue operations that involved helicopters, armored vehicles, special forces, or Saudi Arabia, which engaged a missile cruiser in the port of Sudan, we acted on our own without armored vehicles, aircraft, heavy weapons, as all our forces are currently engaged in the front”, said Yarema, a participant in the special operation and military intelligence officer.
According to Yarema, this operation was much more difficult than the one in Afghanistan because there was a US military base, forces, a departure point, etc., at the airport in Afghanistan. He said that in Sudan, one road could have more than 40-50 checkpoints of unidentified forces with whom it was impossible to communicate or coordinate.
The General Staff of the Ministry of Defense reported that Sudan was plunged into chaos with shootings, artillery duels, and the use of aviation directly in cities, including Khartoum, the capital of this African country, from where it was necessary to quickly rescue Ukrainian citizens.
“The civil war (in this country) was provoked by Russia because 1.5 months before the start of hostilities, Lavrov visited there (Sudan) and brought some equipment. RSF militants were trained in Wagner PMC camps”, the Ukrainian military intelligence clarified.
Separately, the department stated that most of the rescued Ukrainians worked in the aviation industry in Sudan.
“This circumstance significantly increased the risks: the airport immediately turned into a battlefield where our citizens were left stranded without food or water”, the press service noted.
As previously reported, 138 Ukrainians were successfully rescued from Sudan. Currently, all evacuated Ukrainians are safe.
