Ukraine and Belgium Sign Security Agreement

This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the social network “X”.

The agreement guarantees security assistance from Belgium, specifically:

  • Modern armored vehicles
  • Equipment to meet the needs of the Ukrainian Air Force and Air Defense
  • Naval security
  • Demining
  • Participation in the artillery coalition
  • Military training

Additionally, as Zelensky noted, “for the first time in such an agreement, the exact number of F-16 fighters is specified – 30, which will be delivered to Ukraine by 2028, with the first one arriving this year”.

The document also provides for defense industrial cooperation, support for the Ukrainian peace formula, strengthening sanctions against Russia, compensation for damages, justice for the aggressor, use of frozen Russian assets, and economic recovery.

The President of Ukraine pointed out that this agreement will deepen the cooperation between the countries in the areas of intelligence, cybersecurity, and countering disinformation.

Belgium also expresses support for Ukraine’s future membership in the EU and NATO.

It is noteworthy that yesterday Ukraine and Spain signed a bilateral security guarantee agreement, which includes support for armaments, reconstruction, and demining.

Since the beginning of 2024, Ukraine has signed bilateral security agreements with 10 countries. Belgium has become the 11th country. At the same time, discussions on such documents began in 2023.
