Ukraine and Sweden signed a security agreement

This was reported by the press service of the President of Ukraine.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sweden will provide military assistance to Ukraine amounting to 75 billion Swedish kronor (approximately 6.5 billion euros) over 2024-2026, which equates to about 2.2 billion euros per year.

The amount of aid is expected to increase over the ten-year term of the document.

What the agreement with Sweden entails: Military support for Ukraine includes:

  • Aviation,
  • Air defense,
  • Armored vehicles,
  • Artillery,
  • Enhancing maritime security,
  • Mine clearance assistance,
  • Unmanned aerial vehicles.

Sweden has already provided and will continue to supply Ukraine with Archer artillery systems and CV90 combat vehicles, and the partners will also explore possibilities for joint production.

Additionally, a unique part of the agreement with Sweden is the provision of specialized ASC 890 aircraft, and there is also a prospect of transferring JAS 39 Gripen aircraft to Ukraine, including relevant training.

Specific sections of the agreement address support for the Ukrainian peace formula, sanctions, compensation for damages, holding the aggressor accountable, and assisting Ukraine in economic recovery, reconstruction, and protection of critical infrastructure.

Furthermore, Sweden has clearly reaffirmed its support for Ukraine’s path to membership in the EU and NATO.

It should be noted that Ukraine has so far concluded 13 bilateral security agreements: with the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden.
