Ukraine May Participate in Chinese Summit Involving Russia

This was stated by Ukraine’s ambassador to Singapore, Kateryna Zelenko.

According to Zelenko, Kyiv will consider this possibility provided that the negotiations are based on “principles enshrined in the UN Charter and international law.”

The ambassador emphasized that Beijing is a significant player that can help end the war.

It is noteworthy that China declined to attend the peace summit in Switzerland because Russia was not invited. Instead, Beijing is promoting its alternative peace initiative, which will include both sides.

Peace Summit in Switzerland

On June 16, the second day of the Peace Summit on Ukraine was held in Switzerland, attended by representatives from about 100 countries and international organizations.

The summit aimed to discuss and reach a consensus on three issues of Ukraine’s “peace formula”: nuclear and food security, and the release of prisoners, including children.

Initially, the final document was supported by 80 countries and four organizations. Subsequently, three countries withdrew their signatures, but Antigua and Barbuda, the Organization of American States, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate joined.

Jordan, Rwanda, and Iraq retracted their support for the joint communiqué after the Peace Summit.

Countries that did not sign the communiqué include Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India, Mexico, South Africa, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates.
