Ukraine opposes the participation of Russia and Belarus in the Nobel Prize ceremony

This was announced by the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko.

“The Nobel Foundation has made a decision to resume the practice of inviting ambassadors from Russia and Belarus to the Nobel Prize ceremony. This decision is explained by the desire to directly convey their values even to those states that oppose them. Conveying the values of humanism to Russia and Belarus is a Sisyphean task. Efforts that will not lead to results”, he stated.

Nikolenko pointed out that on the day when the Russian ambassador stands in the Stockholm Hall in an elegant suit, the Russian army will continue to violate human rights in the occupied territories of Ukraine, and Russian missiles will continue to attack residential areas in Ukrainian cities. If the foundation returns to its normal relations with the Kremlin under such circumstances, it may encourage a sense of impunity.

Oleg Nikolenko reminded that last year the Nobel Foundation did not invite Russian and Belarusian ambassadors as a protest against Russian aggression in Ukraine.

“As long as this aggression continues, as long as millions of Ukrainians suffer from an unprovoked war, and as long as the Russian leadership is not held accountable for its crimes, we call on the organizing committee to support international efforts to isolate Russia and Belarus”, said the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
