Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained natural phenomena in Kyiv

On June 28, Kyiv residents witnessed an unusual natural phenomenon.

People saw a large cloud with visible lightning through their windows.

No thunder was heard. Many people were frightened by this phenomenon, as they got the impression that this was another russian attack on the Ukrainian capital with the help of the latest weapons.

Some of them thought, that they saw a nuclear mushroom cloud.

However, few people know that a year ago, on June 28, Kyiv residents had the opportunity to observe exactly the same phenomenon. It did not cause much panic among the people then.

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained what the people of Kyiv witnessed a few days ago.

This natural anomaly is called Cumulоnimbus (from Latin cumulus, “heaped” and nimbus, “rainstorm”) . It is a cumulonimbus cloud (Cumulonimbus, Cb), which has reached the height of isotherm at the boundary of the troposphere and stratosphere. Vertical air currents cannot reach the blocking layer of isotherm, so the cloud begins to disperse in the direction of the predominant horizontal air flow.
