This was stated by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, in a comment to “Suspilne” (Public Broadcasting).
According to him, the offensive in the region is being carried out exclusively by the fighters of the Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps, meaning Russian citizens. They are liberating their territory and creating a “security zone” to protect Ukrainian civilians from shelling. He referred to the raid as a natural consequence of the Russian Federation’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps have claimed to have “liberated” the village of Kozinka, and supposedly, consolidated units have entered the city of Hravyvoron. The Legion also reports the “liberation” of the village of Hora-Podil, located near the village of Kozinka.
It is known that the governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, confirmed the battles with the “AFU sabotage and reconnaissance groups.”
Furthermore, the press secretary of Vladimir Putin reported that the President had already been informed about the attempted breakthrough of Ukrainian saboteurs into the Belgorod region. He believes that the “Ukrainian sabotage” is a “distraction from the Bakhmut direction” and the “loss” of the city. However, according to the Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maliar, there are no significant changes on that front at the moment, and the fighting continues.
In addition, Russian Telegram channels are reporting battles in the areas of the settlements of Kozinka, Hlotove, and Hora-Podil. The border checkpoint in Hravyvoron has reportedly been destroyed.
Against the backdrop of these events, the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, addressed the Russian military and called on them to surrender. He reminded the Russian aggressors that for a year now, they have failed to achieve any of the goals set at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. According to Budanov, this appeal is addressed to those Russians who have managed to survive during the war in Ukraine.
“It will get worse. You have a choice – to die or to save your own life”, said the Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate.
Recall that on the morning of May 22, the “Russian Volunteer Corps” announced that it had entered Russian territory and was carrying out combat missions there.
The fighters of the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Legion “Freedom of Russia” announced an “operation” in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions of the Russian Federation. The Russian Volunteer Corps also published several videos showing fighters against the backdrop of road signs in the settlements of Lyubymivka, Bezludovka, Churovychi in the Belgorod and Bryansk regions.
The Legion “Freedom of Russia” also released a video calling on residents of the border Russian regions to stay at home and not resist.
Afterwards, videos of shelling, presumably at the Hravyvoron border crossing, as well as footage of fighters and military equipment, including at least one tank with the flag of Ukraine, began to appear on social media.
