Ukrainian refugees to be able to get permanent status in Canada – Trudeau

That’s according to Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who spoke in an interview with CBC.

“As regards the Ukrainians that have come here I know many of them are looking forward to going home and rebuilding. Many of them want to stay. They will be welcomed and continue to be extraordinary Canadians and proud Ukrainians at the same time,” the prime minister said.

It is telling that Trudeau’s interview was recorded in a Toronto bakery, owned by the descendants of Ukrainian immigrants.

In general, over 135,000 Ukrainians arrived in Canada this year, although not all of them were refugees.

In mid-March, the Federal Government granted over 470,000 special visa applications filed by Ukrainians.
