This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denis Shmyhal, as reported by CBC.
“Our army operates according to NATO standards”, he emphasized.
Shmyhal added that Kyiv has now completed “all necessary reforms, and now we’re one step away from the invitation”,
President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a meeting with officers undergoing professional military education courses according to NATO standards, emphasized that Ukraine cannot become a NATO member during a war. This is because some NATO members feel either at risk or skeptical about the issue.
Ukraine officially applied for NATO membership in September 2022, seven months after Russia’s invasion. At the same time, the application mentioned that Kyiv seeks an accelerated accession procedure without the so-called NATO Membership Action Plan.
The President added that, in his opinion, Russia decided to invade precisely because Ukraine was not a member of the Alliance.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, responsible for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, the United States and Germany are against extending an official invitation to Ukraine to join NATO.
