Zelensky signs law on opening electronic declarations of public officials

This was reported on the website of the Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament).

The bill, numbered 9534, is mentioned to have been returned with the President’s signature.

Restoration of officials’ declaration in Ukraine At the end of June, after an interim assessment of the implementation of seven recommendations from the European Commission, the EU Ambassador advised Ukraine to reintroduce e-declarations to expedite its accession to the European Union.

On July 27th, the Verkhovna Rada, in the first reading, supported the bill proposing the return of electronic declarations for officials.

“For” votes were cast by 299 deputies, while 21 did not participate. The restoration of declaration filing entails submissions for the current year, as well as for 2021 and 2022.

Additionally, special checks will be reinstated.

Military personnel involved in combat operations will submit declarations 90 days after the end of combat or demobilization.

However, lawmakers failed to pass a crucial amendment 371 on declaration disclosure, as it did not receive enough votes, with only 199 deputies in favor.

Subsequently, on September 12th, Volodymyr Zelensky vetoed the bill that would have kept electronic declaration registries closed for another year. In the end, the Parliament approved the President’s veto, amending the law on e-declarations and introducing immediate declaration disclosure.
