A Russian spy was exposed at the Military Administration in Zaporizhia

This was reported by the press-service of SSU.

To carry out hostile tasks, the detainee infiltrated the regional military administration in October of this year. While serving as the chief specialist in the cybersecurity department of the Military Administration, he attempted to covertly access classified information about the UAF’s deployments and defense procurement within the region.

In his efforts to obtain classified information, the Russian “mole” tried to exploit his access to the government institution’s servers.

However, SSU agents arrested the perpetrator and prevented the transfer of classified intelligence to the aggressor.

According to the investigation, the enemy informant was a resident of Zaporizhia, educated as a radio engineer. Before joining the regional military administration, he worked for a local company that provided technical maintenance for military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

It has been determined that he voluntarily offered his “assistance” to the occupiers in the war against Ukraine in September of this year. He communicated this offer through one of the Russian chatbots designed to collect information about the movements of UAF units in the front-line regions.

Subsequently, a personnel officer from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) remotely made contact with him and engaged him in cooperation. At the direction of the Russian special services, the perpetrator secretly captured photographs of the manufacturing facilities at the plant and the military equipment present there.

He also attempted to identify repair bases and other logistical centers of Ukrainian defenders within the regional capital.

For communication with the occupiers, the informant used anonymous chats in a messenger application.

During a search, the detainee’s mobile phone was seized, containing evidence of subversive activities in favor of the Russian Federation.

At present, SSU investigators have informed him of the suspicion against him, and the perpetrator is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
