The verdict was read by the presiding judge, Serhiy Dyachuk. A life sentence was handed down to the former commander of the special police force “Berkut,” Yanishewsky, and he was also stripped of all his titles.
The former officers of this unit, Ambroskin and Zinchenko, were sentenced to 15 years in prison with a 3-year ban on holding public office.
Special forces member Marinchuk was sentenced to 5 years.
However, Berkut officer Tamtura from the same unit was acquitted.
Recall that on October 13, the employees of the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) completed the pre-trial investigation into six former members of the special police force “Berkut,” who were the direct perpetrators of the mass shootings of protesters on February 20, 2014, on Institutskaya Street in Kyiv.
According to the investigation, as a result of their actions, 48 protesters were killed, and 90 received gunshot wounds.
