An explosion occurred at a Russian military base in occupied Crimea

This was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The blast occurred at a Russian border forces base in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea. On Tuesday evening, Russian Telegram channels reported hearing explosions in Sevastopol, but Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty confirmed that the explosion actually occurred at the Russian border forces base near Simferopol.

Geolocation of the explosion site is possible based on published photos, which show that it took place at the former training base for border guards in the area of the Dzhabanak ravine, near the village of Shkilne. The base is located several kilometers from Simferopol airport.

As previously reported, there have been “panic rumors” spreading throughout Sevastopol following an explosion at an occupant oil depot. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that “there is unrest in temporarily occupied Sevastopol”, and as a result of the fire, “panic rumors have spread throughout the city about the inability of the Russian air defense to ensure the safety of its own strategic objects”.

According to the General Staff, Russian military personnel in temporarily occupied Crimea have begun submitting reports for leave, indicating that they will be spending their time off on the territory of continental Russia.
