Counteroffensive. Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced 7.5 km in southern Ukraine

This was reported by Brigadier General Oleksiy Gromov, Deputy Chief of the General Staff’s Main Operations Directorate, in an interview with Ukrinform.

“In general, during the conduct of the defensive operation by the Defense Forces, the operational situation did not undergo significant changes and is characterized by the enemy’s attempts to reach the administrative border of Donetsk Oblast and hold territories in the Donetsk and Tavriya operational sectors. Within the framework of the offensive operation in the Donetsk and Tavriya operational sectors, the most active directions are Melitopol and Berdiansk, where our units have advanced up to 7.5 km into the enemy’s defense”, he explained.

According to the General, since the beginning of the counteroffensive, Ukrainian military forces have liberated 9 settlements, regaining control of nearly 160 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.

“As for the length of the so-called ‘hot’ contact line, it currently exceeds 1200 km. However, this refers to the immediate contact line with the enemy in the Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions, where active combat operations are taking place”, Gromov clarified.

Furthermore, the situation remains tense along the state border in northern Ukraine and along the coast of the Black Sea.

“We must not forget about the northern borders with Belarus and the Russian Federation, from where the enemy conducts constant rocket and artillery shelling. The activity of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance forces is noted, and there is a threat of military invasion. We should also consider the stretch of the maritime coastline in the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions, where, despite the reduction in the enemy’s naval potential, we cannot completely dismiss their amphibious capabilities”, the general revealed.

Additionally, there is a potential threat from Transnistria, he reminded.

“Plus, there is the border with Transnistria, where Russia maintains a limited military presence. Therefore, overall, this line can be approximately 3800 km long”, Oleksiy Gromov summarized.
