Professor and nuclear energy expert Lyudvig Litvinsky made this statement during an interview on KYIV24.
“There will not be a radiation accident, but the maximum economic damage will occur because there are attacks on infrastructure objects, specifically to disable the Zaporizhia NPP for an extended period, so that we cannot bring it back online, resulting in a loss of a quarter of Ukraine’s generating capacity”, he said.
The expert also explained that the escalation surrounding the Zaporizhia NPP is deliberately happening on the eve of the NATO summit to pressure the allies.
“The information noise is created to force negotiations under the threat of a terrorist attack. Perhaps the adversary will agree to something else. Moreover, there will be significant international events very soon, such as the summit in Vilnius. This puts pressure on our allies”, he added.
Possible provocations by Russia at the Zaporizhia NPP that are known.
It should be noted that at the end of June, the occupiers began gradually leaving the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. Several Zaporizhia NPP employees were also instructed to leave the station by July 5. The occupiers advised them to go to the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea.
Intelligence reported that the head of the legal department, Mantsurova, the chief inspector, Statsky, and the deputy head of the station for supply, Gubarev, have already left for the peninsula.
Against the backdrop of rumors about possible Russian provocations at the station in Ukraine, large-scale special exercises were initiated to prepare for a possible terrorist attack at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Subsequently, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov stated that in the civilized world, Russia’s possible terrorist attack on the occupied Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant would be considered “the use of nuclear weapons against the civilian population.”
In turn, Commander of the Joint Forces Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev explained that Ukrainian defenders are reinforcing the northern border of the country with personnel and equipment due to the events surrounding the Zaporizhia NPP.
Military expert and co-chairman of the civic initiative “Prava Sprava” Dmytro Snihiryov described how the possible provocation at the nuclear power plant might look. He noted that during the destruction of the Zaporizhia NPP by the Russians, they would try to simulate an external attack to blame Ukraine for the catastrophe.
