Destruction caused by Russian missiles hinders use of TPPs at full capacity – operator

This was reported by NEC Ukrenergo via Telegram.

“Over the past week, the power system has suffered three Russian strikes – the eighth massive missile attack on Monday, December 5, and two local attacks by artillery and drones in the south and east of the country over the weekend. The destruction caused by the enemy to the power system currently prevents the full use of thermal generation. Additional time is needed to restore operation of TPPs,” the statement says.

It is noted that the situation in Odesa remains difficult, where the efforts to restore power supply to consumers are underway.

“Ukrenergo, generators, and oblenergo brigades are working together to eliminate the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy system. Due to the complexity of the damage, the work takes longer than expected, also being complicated by poor weather conditions (wind gusts and wet snow).

It is reported that in order to ensure the balance in the power system, electricity consumption caps have been established for each region. When the caps are exceeded, emergency shutdowns shall be applied.

As reported, Russian troops attacked the energy infrastructure of Odesa region overnight Saturday, December 10. Blackout covered the entire city of Odesa, except for critical infrastructure.

Since October 10, the Russians have fired more than a thousand missiles and drones at Ukrainian energy facilities.
