This was reported by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and the President of the National Olympic Committee, Vadim Gutzeit.
“Heroes among us. Each and every one of us is a hero. Because together we stand for independence and freedom, victory and peace, a prosperous future and the development of our Ukraine. The history of the Ukrainian people is marked by the suffering and bloodshed of brave, unconquerable, and dedicated heroes of Ukraine. Today, we celebrate Heroes of Ukraine Day. 293 athletes, coaches, and sports professionals have lost their lives in this war… With faith in Victory and in our Defenders, we await the return of nearly three thousand of our colleagues who are currently defending the interests of the state as part of the Armed Forces and National Guard. We sincerely rejoice for everyone who has returned from captivity”, he said.
It should be noted that on April 14, the Ukrainian national teams were officially banned from participating in competitions where athletes from Russia or Belarus are represented. The corresponding order was published on the website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.
