Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas made this announcement, as quoted by ERR.
“Estonia’s contribution to Ukraine’s victory will be 0.25% of the GDP over the next four years. If every country contributes 0.25%, it is what Ukraine needs to win this war”, she said.
Kallas urged other European and North American countries to follow this example. She added that Estonia has already provided nearly 500 million euros in military assistance to Ukraine since 2022.
“This is necessary to ensure our security”, explained Kallas.
Additionally, in the coming years, Estonia will allocate 14 million euros annually for joint efforts in the reconstruction of Ukraine and related decisions.
Kallas noted that many people have become accustomed to the war, and in democratic countries, public opinion slows down decision-making. She believes that consistent explanatory work is needed in various countries to explain why it is essential to support Ukraine.
Earlier, the Estonian government announced the allocation of a new package of military aid to Ukraine, amounting to €80 million. This includes strategically important equipment to support Ukraine’s defense efforts. The specific list of equipment in the package is not disclosed for security reasons. Estonian Defense Minister Peep Pevkur stated that the package is designed to maximize benefits for Ukraine without compromising Estonia’s defense capabilities.
