Reuters reported on statements made by lawmakers emphasizing that if Vladimir Putin succeeds in Ukraine, he may take steps to seize more territory in Europe.
In particular, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Žygimantas Pavilionis, called on Democrats and Republicans to “wake up”.
“Guys, wake up. Are you ready to defeat enemy No. 1, who acts like a modern Hitler?”, he stressed.
At the end of the two-day visit, parliamentary committee heads from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and Norway emphasized the need for new U.S. assistance to Ukraine. They met with representatives of the administration and legislators but primarily sought discussions with Republicans, as they were the ones resisting new aid to Ukraine.
According to delegation members, only one skeptical Republican member of the House of Representatives agreed to meet with them. They felt that Republicans did not sense the “urgency.”
It is worth noting that the U.S. Senate supported the beginning of consideration of a bill to support Ukraine and Israel during procedural voting. President Volodymyr Zelensky commented that it was a “bad day for Putin”, but the final decision is still far off.
Currently, debates are taking place in the U.S. Senate regarding the bill to aid Ukraine and Israel. Amendments may be included in the bill based on the results of the debates if senators decide to do so.
