The president announced this in an official statement.
“I have appointed Lieutenant General Syrsky as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Today, I spoke with Generals Moisyuk and Zabrodsky. Their experience is in service to the state. The year 2024 can be successful for Ukraine only if there are effective changes at the core of our defense, which is the Armed Forces of Ukraine”, he stated.
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is considering changes in the country’s leadership, but did not specify whether this concerns Zaluzhny.
Alexander Stanislavovych Syrskyi is the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He is a military officer, former commander of the Unified Operational Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, holding the rank of Lieutenant General. He was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2022.
Career: In the 2000s, Alexander Syrskyi commanded the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Kyiv Region, based in Bila Tserkva, where he rose to the rank of Major General.
In early 2014, he served as the First Deputy Chief of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There, he was responsible, among other things, for cooperation with NATO.
