France to produce 78 Caesar self-propelled howitzers for Ukraine

This information was announced by the French Minister of Defense Sébastien Lecornu.

Ukraine has already contributed to this program by purchasing six Caesar units and is ready to invest part of its resources in armaments. France is also encouraging allies to participate in the production project.

According to the minister, France will be able to produce 78 Caesar SAUs this year by reducing the production cycle of one unit from 30 to 15 months. The manufacturer, Nexter, has created the necessary reserves and mobilized human resources.

At the same time, France will increase the supply of ammunition for the new howitzers to three thousand per month. Previously, Ukraine received from one to two thousand shells.

The Caesar self-propelled howitzer, designed for the NATO standard caliber of 155 mm, is intended for destroying enemy forces, artillery batteries, fortifications, as well as creating passages in minefields. Its effective firing range is up to 42 km. Ukraine received 30 Caesar units from France, and Denmark promised to provide an additional 19 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2023. The first SAUs arrived in April 2023.

It was previously reported that France would increase the production of Caesar self-propelled howitzers. The Nexter factory in Roanne, France, will increase the production of artillery systems to eight units per month starting from next year.
