Hungary invents a new reason to block EU assistance to Ukraine

This was reported by Index, referring to Péter Szijjártó’s words.

Szijjártó stated that Hungary would block aid because “discrimination against Hungarian companies” in Ukraine has not stopped.

According to him, “until the situation changes, they will not agree to provide assistance”.

Péter Szijjártó mentioned that Brussels wants Budapest to agree to allocate an additional 1.5 billion euros to Ukraine, in addition to the blocked 500 million euros by Hungary.

“Hungary’s position remains unchanged: until we receive guarantees from the Ukrainian side that they will stop ‘hunting down Hungarian companies,’ we cannot support such decisions”, he said.

According to the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian government wants to revoke licenses for the sale of dozens of medicinal products by the company “Gedeon Richter.” A list of 35 medicinal products temporarily banned in Ukraine was prepared by the Ministry of Health in October 2022.

These are medicines produced by “Gedeon Richter” in Russia. Speaking at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting, Szijjártó reminded that Hungary had already blocked 500 million euros for Ukraine.

Recall that in early April, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, stated that after a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, in Brussels, he expects further improvements in relations between Kyiv and Budapest. Dmytro Kuleba noted that their talks were lengthy, without providing specific details on the topics discussed. However, Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó, stated that Hungary had not provided and would not provide weapons to Ukraine.
