In Ukraine, it is officially permissible to write the name “Russia” with a lowercase letter

This statement was made by the National Commission on State Language Standards.

Yes, the National Commission indicated that writing names such as “російська федерація” (Russian Federation), “росія” (Russia), “москва” (Moscow), “московія” (Muscovy), “московське царство” (Moscow Tsardom), “російська імперія” (Russian Empire), “державна дума рф” (State Duma of the Russian Federation), and similar ones with a lowercase letter can be considered acceptable in unofficial texts without qualifying as deviations from the norms of the Ukrainian language.

It is noted that the National Commission discussed this issue taking into account official letters from the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the O. O. Potebnya Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in response to a request from the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, Iryna Vereshchuk.

It is worth recalling that a year ago, the Ukrainian language obtained the status of a future language of the European Union.
