Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov stated this in an interview with BBC.
“If it happens that we receive a gift before Christmas, we will be happy”, he noted.
However, he emphasized that if it happens a bit later, “it should not be considered a tragedy.”
Responding to the question of whether Ukraine will lose the war if U.S. aid stops, he dismissed such a possibility because “the truth is on our side”.
“Will Putin destroy us in front of the whole world? Will he kill our children, our women, our elderly? And the whole world will watch it with closed eyes? Then the question arises: what kind of world are we living in?”, he emphasized.
Recall that on Tuesday, December 5, the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer scheduled the first procedural vote on the additional $106 billion aid package proposed by President Joe Biden for Ukraine, Israel, countries in the Indo-Pacific region, and for humanitarian purposes in Gaza.
However, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, threatens to withdraw support for new aid funding for Ukraine if the White House does not agree to enhance border security.
Against this background, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, urged the U.S. Congress to vote as soon as possible on the aid package for Ukraine, as he believes that delaying U.S. assistance poses a danger that Ukraine will lose the war against Russia.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden called the possibility of stopping military aid to Ukraine “madness”. The U.S. leader believes that the prospect of ending military aid to Ukraine is “just wrong”.
